FUJIWARA AND SAWAKI STUN #2 SEEDS TO REACH SEMIFINALS

Author: PPA Tour Asia | May 29, 2026

Rika Fujiwara and Kei Sawaki pulled off the biggest result of the day at the Macao Open 2026, knocking out #2 seeds Yu-chieh Hsieh and Yufei Long 2-11, 11-6, 11-8 in the Women’s Doubles quarterfinals. The unseeded Japanese pair were 2-11 down in the first and it looked done. Fujiwara and Sawaki thought otherwise, winning back-to-back games to book their place in the semifinals.

Fujiwara and Sawaki will face #3 seeds Jamie Haas and Pei-Chuan Kao in the semifinals, while #1 seeds Xiao Yi Wang-Beckvall and Lingwei Kong take on Ho Tam and Mihae Kwon on the other side. Fujiwara also has a Women’s Singles semifinal against Ho Tam tomorrow. A full-on day ahead.

Long and Wong take down #1 seeds in Mixed Doubles

Yufei Long and Hong Kit Wong made the most of their #7 seeding, beating #1 seeds Lingwei Kong and Len Yang 11-5, 8-11, 11-1 in the Mixed Doubles quarterfinals. The collision had been circled since the brackets dropped and it delivered. Kong and Yang took the second game to level, but Long and Wong ran away with the decider. It was one way traffic with the pair conceding just a single point.

It was a tough day for Kong on her PPA Tour Asia debut. She and Yang carried the #1 seed but were unable to convert it into a semifinal spot. Kong is still alive in Women’s Doubles as the #1 seed with Wang-Beckvall.
