HAAS AND DO CLOSE DAY 1 IN CHINA WITH COMEBACK

Jamie Haas and Quan Do closed out Championship Court on the opening day of the Skechers Shenzhen Open 2026, and they had to earn it. The duo dropped the first game of their Mixed Doubles round of 32 before turning it around to defeat Kwan Wun Man and China’s own Chenyuan Ma 9-11, 11-7, 11-4. Man and Ma reached the Mixed Doubles semifinals at the Capital Securities Beijing Open earlier this season, so no soft opener for Haas and Do, with quality on both sides of the net this early in the draw.
They were not the only ones made to fight for it. The come-from-behind win was the theme of the day. Elsie Hendershot, 13, dropped the first game to Yingyi Yang before storming back to take her Women’s Singles round of 32 8-11, 11-2, 11-4. The American teenager arrived in Shenzhen chasing a first big result in Asia after appearances at the Sansan Fukuoka Open 2025 and the MB Hanoi Cup 2026, and she is up and running. Eunggwon Kim made it three, recovering from a game down to see off local hope He Phoenix 5-11, 11-7, 11-9 with the home ground buff falling just short.
FOLLOW TOURNAMENT ACTION
The qualifiers left their mark too. Jose Maria Pague came through qualifying and kept rolling, the Filipino beating Marco Leung 11-5, 11-9 to reach the Men’s Singles round of 16. Harrison Brown did the double as well, backing up his qualifying run with a big hitting three-game win over Jimmy Liong Kai Long 9-11, 11-7, 11-9 to book his own place in the last 16. Both arrive in the main draw with momentum and nothing to lose.
The seeds enter the fray on Friday, with a stacked Men’s Singles field led by debutant top seed Roscoe Bellamy and a Women’s Singles draw headed by the returning Chao Yi Wang.
