HOME PLAYERS SET THE TONE AS THE SEEDS WAIT

The Capital Securities Beijing Open 2026 is up and running, and the opening day belonged to the doubles, with the home players setting the tone. The marquee seeds are still to come, but the Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles draws got the week moving in Beijing, and China made plenty of the early running.
USA’s Len Yang and China’s Thomas Yu put in the hard yards just to reach the Men’s Doubles draw, coming through qualifying before their Round of 32 opener. There they edged the first game 13-11 against Vietnamese duo Ho Hoan and Nguyen Hung Anh, then closed out 11-6. A step up in class is next, against the #3 seeds Kenta Miyoshi and Robert Stirling. It keeps a live storyline ticking. Any Men’s Doubles medal for Yang this week would lift him to the outright top of the Men’s Doubles medal ladder, where he currently shares the lead with Eric Oncins.

Yu had more to celebrate in front of his local fans. Alongside Yufei Long he landed a big home turf win in Mixed Doubles, the Chinese pair downing Sophia Huynh and Hien Truong 11-5, 11-4 and accounting for the #2 Men’s Singles seed in the process. They go on to meet the #3 seeds, Christa Gecheva and Hong Kit Wong. Two wins across two draws made it a fine opening day for Yu, and a strong start for the home challenge in Beijing.
FOLLOW TOURNAMENT ACTION
From here, the headline acts take over. Chao Yi Wang and Sahra Dennehy open campaigns that point toward a Women’s Singles rematch of last year’s Hangzhou final, when Dennehy beat Wang 11-7, 11-2 for the Hangzhou title. Wang is the only player seeded first in three events this week. Dennehy answers at second in all three.
Zane Ford begins his PPA Tour Asia debut as the top seed in Men’s Singles, the world No.10 the man everyone else has to catch. Hong Kit Wong and Eunggwon Kim launch another bid for a first Men’s Doubles gold together, still chasing the top step after one silver and four bronze as a pair. And on home soil, Yufei Long looks to turn a quiet 2026 around in Women’s Singles.
Day 2 is set and the seeds enter next, and that will be when the Capital Securities Beijing Open really starts to bite.
