NINETY MINUTES OF MAYHEM: TRUONG AND DO STRIKE GOLD
| August 10, 2026
It took just under 90 minutes, and the crowd did not sit down for much of it. Hien Truong and Quan Do won the Men’s Doubles final at the MB Ho Chi Minh City Open 2026 the hard way, coming from a game down to beat Hoang Nam Ly and Collin Johns 11-13, 11-6, 11-4 in front of a home crowd firmly on their side.
Ly and Johns took the opener 13-11 and looked ready to spoil the party. Then Truong and Do found another gear. The reunited pair, who had already won gold together at the Vibrant Linping Hangzhou Open 2025 and the Capital Securities Beijing Open 2026, made it three titles as a partnership, and Truong extended his unbeaten record in Men’s Doubles finals. For Johns, one of the most decorated Men’s Doubles players the PPA Tour has produced in the United States, it was a rare final on the wrong side of the result.
RECAP TOURNAMENT ACTION
If the day belonged to anyone else, it was Andie Dikosavljevic. The Australian arrived in Vietnam with a triple crown from the PPA250 Melbourne back home but no Asia gold to her name. She left with two. Dikosavljevic won the Women’s Singles final over Trang Huynh 11-2, 9-11, 11-7, ending the qualifier’s remarkable comeback run, then returned to partner Yufei Long to a Women’s Doubles title, defeating Xiao Yi Wang-Beckvall and Nok Yiu Tang 12-10, 11-5. A double crown on the day her Asia breakthrough finally came. For Long, it was another Women’s Doubles gold to follow her Singapore title.
Adam Harvey got the gold that slipped away in Singapore. Two weeks after taking silver on his Asia debut, Harvey went one better, cruising past Luc Pham 11-4, 11-4 in an all-American Men’s Singles final. Pham had ended top seed Hong Kit Wong’s bid for a fourth straight gold to get there, but had no answer for Harvey on the day.
Wong did not leave empty-handed. After his singles and doubles bids both ended earlier in the week, he teamed with Lingwei Kong to win the Mixed Doubles final, coming from a game down to beat top seeds Nok Yiu Tang and Eunggwon Kim 4-11, 11-8, 11-9.
