PPA RANKINGS EXPLAINED

What are the PPA Rankings?

The PPA Rankings are based on a rolling 52-week, cumulative system that ranks the best pickleball players in the world.

A player’s ranking reflects points earned from their best 16 results over the previous 52 weeks of competition. Points are awarded based on the level of tournament and how far a player advances at that event.

The player at the top of the rankings holds the title of PPA World No.1 — the most coveted position in pickleball.

The PPA Race

The PPA Race is the season-long standings that determine who qualifies for the PPA Finals.

Unlike the rolling 52-week Rankings, the Race only counts points earned during the current season.

At the end of the season, qualification for the PPA Finals is based on Race standings:

  • Men’s Singles & Women’s Singles: the top 8 players in each
  • Men’s Doubles & Women’s Doubles: the top 16 players in each
  • Men’s Mixed Doubles & Women’s Mixed Doubles: the top 8 players in each

Those who qualify compete at the PPA Finals to be crowned the season-ending champion.

How are PPA Points awarded?

PPA Points are awarded across Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles events. The number of points a player earns depends on the level of the tournament and how far they advance in the draw.

PPA Tour tournaments are categorized by tier, from PPA 125 up to PPA 3000. The higher the tier, the more points on offer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a player need to appear on the PPA Rankings?

A player must earn ranking points from at least one PPA Tour event within the previous 52 weeks to appear on the PPA Rankings.

What happens if two or more players have the same number of points?

When two or more players are tied on points, the tie is broken in the following order:

  1. The player with the fewest tournaments played in the 52-week period.
  2. The player with the highest number of points from a single tournament. If still tied, the second-highest, and so on.
How often are the rankings updated?

The PPA Rankings are updated after every PPA Tour tournament.

Are Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles ranked separately?

Yes. Each player has a separate ranking in each discipline they compete in — Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Men’s Mixed Doubles, and Women’s Mixed Doubles.

What’s the difference between the PPA Rankings and the PPA Race?

The PPA Rankings are based on a rolling 52-week window and reflect a player’s best 16 results over the past year. The PPA Race only counts points earned during the current season — the period between PPA Finals — and determines who qualifies for the next PPA Finals.

What is the PPA Finals?

The PPA Finals is the season-ending championship. The top players in the Race standings qualify, and the winners are crowned the season-ending champions.
