Meanwhile Rika Fujiwara set up a home ground double. She and Kei Sawaki backed up their three-match-point escape in the quarterfinals with an 11-8, 11-6 win over Yu-Chieh Hsieh and Sophia Nhi Huynh to book their spot in the Women’s Doubles final. It is Sawaki’s first ever PPA Tour Asia final, another Japanese name into a gold medal match on home soil.
Earlier in the day Fujiwara carried out a 11-1, 11-5 masterclass over Lingwei Kong in Women’s Singles to make it two finals from two matches on the day. Back-to-back Women’s Singles finals on tour for Fujiwara, following her first Asia gold at the Macao Open in May. After competing in MLP in the United States, she was absent in Beijing. She now walks into Championship Saturday on a seven-match singles winning streak.
Fujiwara faces Pei Chuan Kao in a first-time encounter after Kao scored a huge upset over top seed and world No.10 Kiora Kunimoto 11-9, 5-11, 12-10. Kunimoto brought the power. Kao held firm against the barrage of baseline attacks.
