WONG LEADS THE CHARGE AS MACAO OPEN BRACKETS DROP

The brackets are out for the Macao Open 2026 and Hong Kit Wong is perched at the top of draw. The Hong Kong Open 2025 champion is the #1 seed in Men’s Singles and will be looking to add another gold to his collection when the action gets underway at the Venetian Macao on Thursday May 28. The city where he won that title is just across the Pearl River Delta. This is about as close to a home game as it gets and he for sure will have fans in the bleachers.
Wong’s path features a projected quarterfinal against #6 seed Marco Leung and it could be a tough hurdle. Leung is a Macao, China local and a three-time Men’s Singles quarterfinalist. A home crowd and a seed next to his name could be the combination that pushes him deeper.
Tama Shimabukuro is the #2 seed and sits on the opposite end of the draw. The 15-year-old is entered across three events again after his recent busy week in Kuala Lumpur and stamina could be the deciding factor in how he finishes this campaign. He carries the #2 seed in Men’s Singles, #1 seed in Men’s Doubles with Armaan Bhatia and the #3 seed in Mixed Doubles with Jamie Haas. Having just got his first ever taste of gold in Asia after a Mixed Doubles win, he will eager to make sure it isn’t lonely in the trophy cabinet.
Lingwei Kong arrives
China’s Lingwei Kong is making her PPA Tour Asia debut and she has not come quietly. The world No.35 in Women’s Doubles is the #1 seed in two events. She partners Xiao Yi Wang-Beckvall in Women’s Doubles and Len Yang in Mixed Doubles, carrying the top billing in both.
FOLLOW TOURNAMENT ACTION
Kong is one of several players competing on the tour for the first time this season after building a strong record on the PPA Tour in the United States. Three events, two #1 seeds. It will be debut to keep an eye on.
Doubles partners, singles rivals
In Women’s Singles, Yufei Long returns as the #1 seed after her quarterfinal exit at the Panas Kuala Lumpur Open. Albie Huang is the #2 seed with Rika Fujiwara at #3 and Sophia Tran at #4.

The standout collision sits in the round of 16. Mihae Kwon and Nok Yiu Tang were Women’s Doubles partners at the Panas Kuala Lumpur Open. But in singles here, they are on opposite sides of the net. Kwon arrives on the back of her breakthrough run in Kuala Lumpur where she defeated #2 seed Yufei Long on her way to the semifinals and eventual bronze medal. Can Kwon keep the fire burning when its friend turned to foe.
Revenge on the menu in Men’s Doubles
In Men’s Doubles Armaan Bhatia and Tama Shimabukuro are the #1 seeds with Collin Johns and Len Yang at #2. The two pairs met in the Panas Kuala Lumpur Open final where Johns and Yang took gold 11-3, 11-6. Quick lessons learned will be needed if revenge is to be served out.
Event stalwarts Eunggwon Kim and Hong Kit Wong are the #3 seeds. The duo now have one silver and three bronze medals together on PPA Tour Asia but the gold remains out of reach. The path to top of the podium however will be anything but easy. Depth is an understatement in the draw. Mitchell Hargreaves and Kenta Miyoshi are seeded fourth, Robert Stirling and Joseph Wild at #5, Prycen Haas and Lucas Pascoe at #6, Luc Pham and Joshua Yoo at #7 and Easton Horricks and Wil Shaffer complete the top eight.
